2014 Stockholm Junior Water Prize Award Winners

The winner of this run-off competition will be decided by a team of judges later this spring to represent Vermont at the National runoff for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize June 13-14, in Herndon, VA.

Top: Vivian Huang, South Burlington High School, Biosorption of Heavy Metal Contamination Using Powdered Pleurotus ostreatus
Runner up: Basundhara Mukherjee, South Burlington High School, The Effects of Aluminum Sulfate on Ceriodaphnia dubia
Vivian Huang could not attend the national competition, therefore, Basundhara Mukherkee was Vermont's State representative to the National runoff for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize in Oregon on the 15th and 16th of June.
Basundhara's and Vivian's High School Science Teacher is Curtis Belton. This prize is sponsored by the New England Water Environment Association.

Basundhara Mukherjee, South Burlington High School
17 May, 2012, the Water Environment Federation Announced that Basundhara Mukherjee is this year's Vermont winner of the Stockholm Junior Water Prize for her project, "The Effect of Different Flow Rates in a Sand Filter to Purify Water." Basundhara's High School Science Teacher is Curtis Belton. This prize, sponsored by the New England Water Environment Association, qualifies Basundhara to compete in the 2012 U.S. Stockholm Junior Water Prize National Competition to be held in Boston, MA, between June 14th-16th. The following high school winners were eligible to compete to be the Vermont representative to the National runoff for the Stockholm Junior Water Prize.

Riya Patel South Burlington High School
Riya Patel won the Vermont Slot to the National Runoff. At the National Runoff, she did not place among the top winners of the 50 entrants but "had a great time" and learned a lot.
