Entergy Women In Nuclear (WIN) at Vermont Yankee $200 Entergy WIN will also award a $200 prize to a young woman in grades 9-12 who has an outstanding project in chemistry, physics or engineering that also relates to power source generation.

 

 

 

SPECIFIC PRIZE CRITERIA

VERMONT PRINCIPALS' ASSOCIATION: is the overall sponsoring organization for the Math and Science Fair. In addition to the gold and silver medals awarded to projects judged superior and excellent  they will award a $200 scholarship to the top senior project in any area.

VERMONT STATE SCIENCE & MATH FAIR ISEF COMMITTEE:  Two students judged to have the top high school (grades 9-12) projects, and those students' teachers, will win an all-expense paid trip to Reno, Nevada from May 10-15, 2009 to participate in the 58th ISEF.  There they will compete for millions of dollars in prizes with about 1000 other finalists from around the world
  

The finalists will find unimagined opportunities to learn, mingle with like-minded peers, network for his/her future, and get a real taste of the exciting world of successful academicians (including opportunities to attend presentations by Nobel laureates). Both teacher and finalist will come home loaded with new ideas through exposure to other projects and training sessions that occur.

AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - GREEN MOUNTAIN LOCAL SECTION: will award three prizes for projects in any area of chemistry. The top chemistry project will receive $100 and the next two projects will each receive $50. Projects at any grade level are eligible.
 

CD Rom describing Humane Reseach Alternatives

 

ESEC: Projects must promote awareness, compassion and understanding of animals. To be considered for an award, a student must not cause physical or psychological harm to any animal in any way, and students may not obtain animals specifically for this project. Project suggestions include: 1) observe animals in the wild or companion animals at home, 2) develop a computer simulation of animals in their environment, 3) document how cosmetics and other products are tested without harming animals, or 4) survey alternatives to dissection.

GREEN MOUNTAIN WATER ENVIRONMENT ASSOCIATION: will award $300 in prizes (savings bonds) to projects involving water pollution control, water quality, and drinking water. Projects at any grade level are eligible.
NORTHEAST BRANCH AMERICAN SOCIETY FOR MICROBIOLOGY: will award two $100 prizes to the top two projects in the area of microbiology, biotechnology and microbial genetics. Projects at any grade level are eligible.
VERMONT STATE NURSES ASSOCIATION: will award a $50 prize to a project involving health, nutrition, or human physiology. Projects at any grade level are eligible.
VERMONT CHAPTER OF SIGMA XI: will award two $50 prizes to the top two projects showing good research techniques. Projects at any grade level are eligible.
TAU BETA PI ENGINEERING HONOR SOCIETY--NORWICH UNIVERSITY CHAPTER: will award a $50 prize for a top project involving engineering or physics. Projects at any grade level are eligible.
VERMONT ACADEMY OF ARTS AND SCIENCES: will award one $100 prize to the top senior project showing good research techniques. Projects in any area of science or mathematics are eligible.


VERMONT AGENCY OF NATURAL RESOURCES and the DEPARTMENT OF ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION: will award six $100 prizes to the top three junior high and top three senior high projects that demonstrate outstanding achievement in applying the scientific method in studies of ecology, earth science, and the entire spectrum of what might be termed environmental sciences.
groSolar: GroSolar will provide a $450 Zeus standalone solar system for localized lighting needs to the best high school project on renewable energy, with solar energy given preference.
NRG Systems: NRG systems will provide a prize of $250 to the best high school project on renewable energy, with wind power given preference.      

                                                                                                              

 

10% CHALLENGE PROGRAM: will award two $50 prizes to the top middle school and top high school projects that address global climate change.  This will be matched with a $50 incentive prize to the awardees if they help promote the May 4-8 Way to Go! Commuter Challenge,  (a one week event to encourage everyone to commute to their school in an alternative way, i.e., walk, bike, carpool or ride the bus). STOCKHOLM INTERNATIONAL WATER INSTITUTE: will award the Stockholm Junior Water Prize for an outstanding water science research project by a young person or group of young people. The Green Mountain Water Environment Association will select the top project in water science at the Vermont State Science and Math Fair. This project will then be presented at the New England regional competition and could be selected to enter the national competition. National winners will compete in Stockholm for a prize of $5000 and a blue crystal sculpture of a water droplet.
SOCIETY OF WOMEN ENGINEERS--NORTH COUNTRY SECTION: will award A $100 prize to a young woman whose outstanding project involves engineering, physics, computer science, or math. Projects at any grade level are eligible.

Northeast Institute of Food Technology: NEIFT will award $200 prizes to the top 2 projects in food science.  In addition, each awardee and his or her teacher or parent is invited to a free dinner at the NEIFT Student Recognition Night in Marlboro, MA.
Entergy Vermont Yankee: Entergy Vermont Yankee will award a $500 prize to any high school level science project on Nuclear Energy or related nuclear field project.
Entergy Women In Nuclear (WIN): Entergy Women In Nuclear (WIN) at Vermont Yankee will award a $100 prize to a diverse team of 7th and/or 8th graders whose outstanding project involves geology & earth science as it relates to power source generation. Entergy WIN will also award a $200 prize to a young woman in grades 9-12 who has an outstanding project in chemistry, physics or engineering that also relates to power source generation.
