Display Requirements

 

Display Area

 

Depth (front to back): 100 centimeters (50 cm on table or bench top and 50 cm on floor in front of table or bench)

Width (side to side): 100 centimeters

Height (floor to top): 250 centimeters (the tallest bench tops are 95 cm high)

 

 

At the fair, any project with a component that will be demonstrated, must be demonstrated only within the confines of the display area. When not being demonstrated, all components of the project and display must fit and remain in the display area.  The poster and supporting documentation are subject to the display area requirements.

 

 

The display must have the project title and the student(s) names clearly visible within the display area.  Displaying the abstract, data and bibliography is encouraged.

 

Electrical Devices

 

If the display requires electrical power, a three-prong extension cord is recommended.  Extension cords and power strips will NOT be available at the fair. 

 

All electrical devices must be UL listed or they must be made of UL listed parts, and be grounded, completely insulated and not hazardous.

 

 

Photographs

 

Photographs and/or visual depictions must not be offensive or inappropriate.  This includes, but is not limited to, visually offensive photographs or visual depictions of invertebrate or vertebrate animals, including humans.

 

Photographs must have credit lines of origin (“Photograph taken by...” or “Image taken from...”). (If all photographs being displayed were taken by the student or are from the same source, one credit line prominently on the display board is sufficient.)

 

Photographs or visual depictions of all human subjects require a signed release form to be present at the booth.  Photographs or visual depictions of the student do not require a signed release form.

 

 

Not Allowed in Display Area

  Please do NOT bring these items to the fair, or incorporate them into your display. 

 

 

1. Living organisms including plants, insects, and cultures of microorganisms

2. Feces or waste samples unless permanently encased in a slab of acrylic

3. Taxidermy specimens or parts

4. Preserved invertebrate or vertebrate animals unless fossilized or permanently encased in a slab of acrylic

5. Human or animal food

6. Human/animal parts or body fluids (for example, blood, urine, hair, nails, teeth)

7. Raw plant materials (living, dead, or preserved)

8. Any chemicals including water (Exception: water integral to an enclosed apparatus)

9. Any hazardous substances or devices (for example, poisons, drugs, firearms, weapons, ammunition, reloading devices, and lasers)

 

***Any device with unshielded belts, pulleys, chains, or moving parts with tension or pinch points are permitted for DISPLAY ONLYand are not to be operated.  Any device producing temperatures that will cause physical burns may only be operated by the student in the presence of one or more judges and must be adequately insulated and disconnected when not in use.

 

10. Dry ice or other sublimating solids

11. Sharp items (for example, syringes, needles, pipettes, knives)

12. Flames or highly flammable materials

13. Batteries with open-top cells

14. Business cards, flags, logos, endorsements, and/or commercial acknowledgments (graphic or written)

15. Postal addresses, telephone and fax numbers, and e-mail addresses.  World Wide Web addresses may only be used in credits or a bibliography. 

16. Photographs or other visual presentations depicting vertebrate animals in surgical techniques, dissections, necropsies, or other lab procedures

17. Active Internet or e-mail connections as part of displaying or operating the project at the fair

18. Glass containers or glass objects (Exception: glass that is an integral part of a commercial product such as a computer screen)

 

 

 

Displays that violate these rules, interfere with other displays, or that are generally disruptive will be removed.  The VSSMF Directors' decision is final.
